There is a problem with the UI once a user has added so many groups that the list flow off of the screen, they are not able to access the groups as there is no scroll bar or search function. The user has found a work around, but is asking for this to be addressed.

I presume user management groups? This will be addressed in the User Management redesign. #1927 #3341 cc @raghunayyar

@MTRichards I just need to set some expectations any ideas on timing here?

@jancborchardt The long term fix may well be the design, any chance we can make this list scroll for the short term? This severely limits the usability in large installations.

@bboule what version is affected and can you please give exact steps to reproduce this issue?

cc @tanghus and @icewind1991 because this is related to the multiselect widget. Can you help?

The only way I could think to reproduce this, is if there are more groups than users, and I would say that is a corner case.
But trying it out, I can't reproduce it. When the drop down list is too long, it gets a scroll bar.

The users have said they fixed this with a stylesheet wizard, and went silent - so I have no more insight from them, I just know that if you have too many groups, and the list is not scrollable. I am guessing they made it scrollable...

Ok, would be cool if they could let us know their solution. Apart from that, I can’t reproduce it either, and just like @tanghus get a scroll bar.

And if it’s fixed for them, I would close this until it comes up again and we can get more info from them.

Yeah, it would be nice to know what their solution was. I am having a similar issue/request with groups in OwnCloud.

@craiglondon can you say more about the issue?

@MTRichards Maybe? I could upload a screenshot. Will that help? I'm not sure if my concern is 100% the same as @bboule, but I think it will eventually be an issue as we keep adding additional groups.

@craiglondon A screenshot would be awesome. And any description of the issue you are worrying about there. Thanks!

When a user is in multiple groups, the container for the group names becomes unwieldy. In our setup, we have several clients that upload files to us, we need to keep their files separate from each other but visible to internal users, we have done this by creating groups, adding internal users to all required groups, so they can view all the assets. As we continue to add more clients, we will contine to create more groups and add internal users to those groups, this is going to be a problem eventually to see if a user is in certain groups or not.

Thanks!

@craiglondon as you see the groups dropdown expands to the width it can take. Naturally if a user is in more than 6 groups or so (greatly depending on screen width), only the first ones are actually directly visible in the row. For more info you just have to click on the dropdown to make it expand. The groups in which the user is (the checked ones) should show up first, so you quickly see which groups this user is in.

@bboule is this still an issue? THX

The width of the dropdown as mentioned by @craiglondon was fixed and backported, will be in the next ownCloud 6.
