Nicholas Beaton

I am a Senior Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Melbourne, Australia. From 2017-2021 I was a Research Fellow, supported by a Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) from the Australian Research Council, titled "Statistical Mechanics and Topology of Polymer Systems".

In 2015 and 2016 I was a PIMS Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, working in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

During 2014 I was a Research Assistant at the University of Melbourne, Australia, working in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems (MASCOS).

From 2012 to 2013 I was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Laboratoire d'Informatique de Paris Nord (LIPN) at Université Paris 13 (Paris Nord), France.

I completed my PhD, titled "Combinatorics of Lattice Paths and Polygons", in 2012 at the University of Melbourne, Australia, under the supervision of Prof. Tony Guttmann.

My research interests are in statistical mechanics, particularly lattice models of walks, polygons, animals and trees, and their applications to modelling interacting polymer systems. Problems in these fields are also frequently connected with complex analysis, stochastic processes and algorithms for counting and simulating discrete structures.
