Ok I'm on a time crunch, I go live Wednesday morning.

No matter what I have Sound API set at including none, Mixxx sound is hot and sends to the Record/Broadcast section.

It appears that all the input/output setting have no affect.

I need to send it out via Line out to the mixer. Then bring in back in from the mixer via Line In/Microphone and send it out via Record/Broadcast. Should be straight forward, I have no control over the sound from Mixxx. it's always hot and never makes it to the line out. However it's always going to Record/Broadcast.

Ideas?

Ron

It is difficult to give detailed help without knowing what sound card and mixer you are using.

Mixxx sound is hot

What do you mean by this? Do you see the mixer's meters showing signal is coming in from Mixxx's output?

I need to send it out via Line out to the mixer. Then bring in back in from the mixer via Line In/Microphone and send it out via Record/Broadcast.

You can do this by sending Mixxx's output(s) to the mixer, connecting the mixer's output to a sound card input, and setting Mixxx's Record/Broadcast input to that sound card input. Do not configure any of Mixxx's microphone inputs.

However, this setup is not recommended because the unnecessary digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital conversions reduce the sound quality. It is better to use a sound card that supports direct monitoring instead of an external mixer. Refer to this forum post for more information (you can ignore the parts about setting up OBS and Skype if you won't be using those):

Of course, scrambling to get and setup different hardware when you have a gig in a few days is not a good idea, but for the future you may want to consider different hardware.

Ok I went and rebooted everything made sure I was using the right skin.

What happens is that the encoder will all of a sudden capture sound from Mixxx. and you can put everything at none and there is still sound. I managed to get it to not do that by shutting down and reopening Mixxx.

Sound API - DirectSound
Master Out - Line Out
Samson Mixer
Record / Broadcast - Line in

Checking the Windows Playback and Record shows both sound out and sound in VU (look correct)

Listening to the stream I will get 1/2 sec of good sound then rumbling (best I can describe it). however what I recorded was fine and didn't seem to have a rumbling problem.

I had this same problem with an older version of Mixxx with the encorder. I believe you need to look at how Mixxx handles the encoders. I have 3 other DSP / Encorder software which all work fine.

It's almost there! I still love using Mixxx for my broadcasts and will love it even more when I don't have to use 3 different programs.

As far as the digital to analog then analog to digital. Been doing it like this for years with no problems.

Thanks!

Hmmm, that is weird. What codecs are you using for broadcasting (MP3 or Ogg Vorbis) and recording (WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, or Ogg Vorbis)? You can check in the preferences pages for Live Broadcasting and Recording.

Are you able to use your sound card with the WDM-KS sound API?

MP3 for broadcasting and recording MP3.

WDM-KS, yes but it didn't change how it reacted.

Do you have a way to test the encoder. If not take a look at MyRadioStream.com. I think you can set up a test stream server, connect the encoder and listen right on the webpage. This is what we use to test.

If you're using the same codec for recording and broadcasting but only broadcasting has this issue, then I think there is an issue with Mixxx's connection to the broadcasting server. What type of connection are you using (Icecast 2, Icecast 1, or Shoutcast 1)? Could you attach the mixxx.log file from when this happens?

Where do I find the log file?
