Congratulations for an excellent and easy to use Getting Started guide. If only the rest of the document didn't require quite so much Unix/Monitoring knowledge to get through. I originally opsted this suggestion in the Icinga forum on monitoring-portal and dnsmichi sent me over here to submit the ticket.
I'm new to monitoring tools and unix and so i was glad to find the Getting Started section so helpful. I only had one problem. I had previously encountered an optional section (the one on context hilighting, which i did use later, but not in the initial install) and so when i got to the Nagios Plugin section and it did not have call-out blocks with command examples, i skipped it.
I didn't have any problems until i tried to load a gui and it just threw errors trying to monitor things.
I'd like to suggest two changes:
as with all the other non-optional sections, use the call out blocks to tell your reader that this section is not optional and create example style commands:
for instance: CentOS 7 yum install OR
Indicate that this section is not optional at the very beginning. For intance: Icinga requires that these plugins be installed in order to run.
