fb2: newline not producing a space between words

Partial fb2 text shows that this whitespace directly corresponds to newlines in the FB2 XML document.

I haven't managed to dig the intended interpretation from the "specification", but dropping newlines altogether is, IIUC, not typical for processing text in XML. The file being discussed has been generated from HTML with pandoc and I've tested that pandoc converts such lines from HTML to FB2 literally, likely assuming that the FB2 reader normalizes newlines / whitespace just like an HTML renderer would. Attaching a test HTML file and an FB2 produced from it with pandoc.
