Filecoin Dev Digest README

Purpose of the "Filecoin Dev Digest"

1. Increase awareness of Filecoin + Filecoin ecosystem technical developments across the wider web3 ecosystem
2. Improve opportunities for collaboration across Filecoin network dev and product teams

This should be content that a builder in the Filecoin ecosystem wants to pay attention to assuming it succinctly provides broad awareness of developments from other teams but also with links for one to learn more about a specific area.

Problems Previously Observed

At FDS Dev Upgrade track in Bangkok at FDS-5 in 202411, a few problems were highlighted:

1. Information is scattered but network decision makers need an easy way to digest important updates
2. Low visibility is given to the wider web3 ecosystem on technical progress of Filecoin network teams
3. Current content like Filecoin Upload newsletter or Filecoin Updates posts don’t have technical rigor that devs need
4. "Small" teams often don't have the PM or marketing muscle to ensure that regular timely updates get shared. It would be great if they can join on another train to make sure it happens and get broader reach.
5. A weekly "FIL Stack Leads" meeting is covering a lot of this content but it is a gated meeting (and not meant to be public)

Expectations of the "Filecoin Dev Digest"

1. Garner better readership (i.e., have more people than whoever is on the “FIL Stack Leads” meeting invite)
2. Be more inclusive (any team, any working group, etc. can give an update)
3. Still be very technical / work oriented (for active builders on Filecoin, primed with quick technical updates)

Process For Creating A New Digest

@trruckerfling of FIL-B owns this at least as of 2025-02-11.

How to add your Filecoin update

You can start by adding a comment on a given digest with your team's updates. Newsletter admins will add relevant updates to this edition. Entities/projects building on Filecoin will also be invited to contribute to future newsletters.

Why are GitHub Discussions used?

Pros:

• Easy ability to comment
• It's in a portal/tool that developers are already using
• Can get notification in FIL Slack with /github subscribe filecoin-project/community discussions:{category:"filecoin-dev-digest"}

Cons:

• No pull request for commented review before publishing
• Anchor links don't work (i.e., you can link to a section within a post)
• Can't get email notifications for posts directly in the category. You can only describe to community discussions as a whole. (This is well covered in https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/3951 and https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/20316.)
