Custom Kernel not loading? (Or potential other issue) #33
Comments
Hi @valuta1995, This is a known issue. See #30 (comment) from #30. As described there, my suggestion is to upgrade to beta firmware v1.11.0+ if you only need the custom kernel for multicast routing (for IPTV). The stock kernel of that firmware version supports multicast routing directly, so it is not necessary to boot a custom kernel. |
Hi @fabianishere, That is what I tried following the guide, but that link is a 404 for me and the internet archive has no back-up for it. Does the link work for you? If so, do I need to be logged in somewhere? Edit: even while logged in it does not work for me. Do I need to enroll for a beta program? |
You can probably only see it if you are logged in and enrolled for the beta program. Does the following "mirror" work for you: https://unifi-forum.nl/onderwerpen/unifi-os-dream-machines-1-11-0-14.2311/ |
The "Mirror" does in fact work (using the -base model at the bottom of the OP) I tried enrolling for the beta program, but I still get the following message: https://i.imgur.com/w7SEcio.png Perhaps that takes some time to get updated. Anyway, the "Mirror" worked, I will try loading that firmware image. Would you recommend cleaning up the installed programs from the guide (or at least disabling the kernel auto-boot? |
I don't expect the installed programs to cause any issues, but if you are not using them, my suggestion would be to remove the packages as follows (run from UniFi OS): apt remove udm-kernel* |
By the way, did you mean to link https://unifi-forum.nl/onderwerpen/unifi-os-dream-machines-1-11-0-14.2311/ (1.11.0-14) instead of 1.10.0-15 or should the 1.10.0-15 work just as well? |
Version 1.11.0-14 is the first version that supports multicast routing in the stock kernel, so I expect anything above that to work. |
I think 1.11.0-14 is the first (and only) version. 1.10.x didn't support it |
@TheJulianJES Thanks for the correction. I mistakenly assumed that Ubiquiti had recently released v1.11.0-15 🤦 @valuta1995 Sorry for the confusion. The link you posted is indeed the firmware version you need (so version 1.11.0-14 or above): |
That indeed resolved the issue. I didn't even need to change any settings (beyond uninstalling the superfluous packages) |
Hi,
I'm trying to get KPN IPTV to work through a regular UDM (not pro).
I thought the custom kernel booted successfully, but now I am not so sure. The output for
uname -a
is as follows:If this is not what I am supposed to see, I think that is the issue to look at; if this is correct however, I have a different issue.
The DHCP debugging seems fine, but the podman logs have a bunch of warnings.
Additionally, the other issue on custom kernel issues asked for the output of
# cat /sys/fs/pstore/*
which is as follows. The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
