I'm getting this error when using the provider from Magic auth to place a transaction (https://magic.link/docs/advanced/blockchains/ethereum/javascript)

This should have been opened as a discussion, not an exceptional issue.

I am unfamiliar with that library, but the value 80000000000000000 is invalid as a hexstring, the value must be prefixed with a 0x, i.e. 0x80000000000000000.

I also noted that site you linked to is using an ancient version of ethers; you may want to consider updating that too. :)

For the same tx payload, signer.sendTransaction() did not throw an error when the signer was created using a private key, but throws an error when used with a signer from a provider. Why's that?

The only difference between the previously working code and the current code is:
