Merging contact records - flagging up contacts synced with Xero

When merging contact records in CiviCRM, an alert is displayed after the merge, when a record that is synchronised with Xero has been deleted/soft deleted.
Of course it would be much more preferable if the status of the record was visible prior to actioning the merge. Wondering what might be involved in enabling that visibility, maybe placing an alert on the merge screen highlighting that the record about to be deleted is synced with Xero?
Alongside that, it might be even more elegant if the sync was able to handle the change in contact ID that might result from a given merge, i.e. by modifying the ID of the matched record in Xero.
