Maven Core Extension have recently been improved. Their extension.xml file format contains GAV similar to pom.xml files. In the future, it might be worth supporting this extension file format.

I looked into it already because of this:

and it should be possible to support this here as well but is a little bit more changes, if someone is particular interested in this topic and like to sponsor development please let me know and I can offer to work on this.
