Howto setup the miniserv.pl Perl script
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
miniserv.pl starts a tcp socketserver on your client machine. You do not have to setup a big webserver if you want
to transmit your client_state.xml over the network. In order to use this miniserver you have to install Perl and
the HTTP::Daemon class on the machine where the script should run.
!!! Windows users !!!
You need to install Perl for Windows which is freely available at:
Download: http://www.activestate.com/ActivePerl/download.html
Documentation: http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Reference/
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installation steps:
1. Edit the file miniserv.pl with a texteditor and setup the path that points to your client_state.xml file.
The following examples are valid (should be an absolute path)
(Unix/Linux)
/path/to/BOINC/client_state.xml
(Windows)
C:\Windows\Program Files\BOINC\client_state.xml
You do not have to change the port unless its used by another program.
2. Save the file.
3. Copy the file to a location of your choice on the client machine.
(UNIX/Linux -> Make the file executable chmod +x miniserv.pl)
4. Open your shell konsole and start the script.
(UNIX/Linux -> Please do not start the miniserv.pl as superuser root as there is no need to do this!)
If you want to run it as a daemon you can use nohup under UNIX/Linux which allows you to close the terminal
after starting the script. It still runs in the background!
nohup /path/to/miniserv.pl
