Character limit for short answer type

If it's relevant, this is using the self hosted version. Currently there seems to be no character limit for short answer type questions. In testing this, myself and my team were able to submit upwards of 500,000 characters with nothing stopping us. It would be great to see perhaps a max character limit of 100 or so on the short answer by default, perhaps user definable too like the long answer type has.
