Hello everyone,
If you've been browsing Twitter/X in the past few weeks, you may have noticed that images are now downloaded in WebP format as opposed to JPEG. For some, this format can be problematic with the software you use to view/edit images or uploading to another platform. By design, the extension automatically pulls the appropriate image format. This can either be JPEG, PNG and now WebP. A long time ago, there used to be an option where you could select between JPEG and PNG. However, I've removed this option as there are cases where PNG images are uploaded to the platform. If users left the option to JPEG, that PNG may lose it's transparency effect (if any).
While that feature is not making a return, I will be deploying a temporary solution in the next minor update (version 4.0.3) to allow you to download images in JPEG by default. Please note, this feature will be marked as beta and will be disabled by default. Forcing all images to JPEG may not be ideal and may hinder the ability for you to view or download on some images.
Additionally, you may also lose the ability to save images on Twitter/X if the poster uploaded it in PNG.
Thank you for your continued support!
Best Regards,
Dasutein
