Similar apps have much struggled with adoption by users throughout Europe and North America. UK was recently pushing toward enabling contact tracers as they are attempting to carefully reopen and integrated a QR code check-in capability reachable to contact tracers upon demand similarly to the NZ Tracer app. NHS case was deemed in violation with the existing #GAEN privacy and could not be deployed. Reopening also means more accesses through borders, effective quarantine tracking and need for vaccine passport info. Europe and Asia Pac have already been discussing app interoperability requirements as people will someday travel again. Presumably North America will follow too. The GAEN framework was expected to adapt and evolve during the pandemic. But little guidance has been provided by Google and Apple on how to better move forward given the lessons learnt so far, particularly on app adoption. No guidance was provided (to my knowledge) for dealing with VOCs and be better prepared for the 3rd wave. This absence of leadership does not help. Organisations like the app advisory council and HC/CDS could certainly use such guidance. Any Canadians interested in discussing the Google Apple GAENS framework reqs??? Otherwise Google and Apple, time to step up!
