The idea originally proposed here to connect multiple farmers together evolved into something called Farming cluster

This reminds me somewhat on the node/farmer/harvester split in Chia. 🙂

Sharing the piece cache across multiple farmers is precisely why I asked some time ago on discord if node could manage the piece cache of the farmers and potentially reduce overhead/redundancy of the caches.

Am I correct in the assessment that this would mostly benefit those with relatively large farms and relatively low network bandwidth?

This will also reduce the amount of bandwidth in the network. If a large number of people flood in at the same time and because too many supervisor are introduced, will it cause new farmers to be unable to synchronize? I think this issue is worth considering.
