Ares ships have three weapons: beam, pulse, and special. EV ships can cycle between multiple secondary weapons. There’s no good way to mimic this in Ares, at least for ammo-based weapons (which secondary weapons generally are). Changing weapons loses the ammo counts.
I propose that it be allowed for an Antares object to have multiple special weapons, as long as it has no beam (second) weapon. On such a ship, the beam weapon key would cycle through special weapons. In the ammo display, the middle display would show the first three characters of the current special weapon’s short name. The right display would show the ammo count for that weapon (if any).
It would be difficult to teach the AI how to use this kind of weapon.
