at CCC events, having a DECT phone or a mobile phone on the on-event telefony system is quite popular.

at commercial fairs, you visit a booth and talk to some company representative.

at a virtual conference this would be mapped to:

  • each user (visitors, presenters, exhibitors) has an id
  • the system can establish a direct-id1-id2 audio/video channel, e.g. via jitsi
  • should have a do not disturb and a busy (already talking) states

security issue: we need to use a random id for a 1-1 chat so that it can not be predicted.

besides "private calls", a similar method could be used to establish small groups (as far as the scalability supports it), just put more than 2 people in same jitsi room.
