카카오톡 설정>채팅 아래로 스크롤하면 다운로더 폴더 설정이 있는데
윈도우는 기본적으로 C드라이브 설정으로 되어있더라구요
경로를 우분투에 맞게 설정하니 사진 전송이나 동영상전송 그리고 다운로드도 되더라구요

Hi Shane, thank you for the prompt response!
After multiple mistake in trying installing kakao, i managed to get kakao working but stuck in displaying Korean text input.

In the terminal I typed sudo vi ~/.wine/system.reg and got very long text which i couldn't interpret at all.
When i changed directory to ~/.wine and typed command of ls -al
my system shows very similar to the info as your above screen.

-rw-rw-r-- 1 z16lite z16lite 3634060 6월 24 09:52 system.reg

I don't know how to proceed from here :-(

Hi, chrzo.

This is what i get when do ls -al ~/.wine

Your system.reg file size looks ok, but i don't know what happened to your wine system.
If you only use wine for Kakao, i guess uninstall wine clearly and start again from the scratch would be better choice since you can't change reg file.

But before do that there's one option you can try
i edited system.reg file lately but before that i was still able to use Kakao.
You can try the following steps

1. download d2coding font

You can download here https://github.com/naver/d2codingfont/releases/tag/VER1.3.2

2. install D2Coding.ttf file
   
3. change font on Kakao
   

I tried multiple fonts but only D2 Coding was working. Not the best font but It is okay to use.

Only the difference is whether you can read the advertisements or not. but It doesn't matter.

following your comment, I realized i was no considerate enough. So I updated the post.

On linux system, most people use vim editor which is pretty hard to handle for beginners.

1. excute vi ~/.wine/system.reg which will open the editor
2. :65911 then replace Tahoma with Malgun Gothic. to input something you should type i
3. :wq save and quit. that's it.

If you're not used to use vim editor, it could be really hard to edit the file.
then you can use another text editor. just don't forget ~/.wine folder is hidden. you can toggle show hidden by type Ctrl + H on file manager.
otherwise you should learn how to use vim

폰트 설정 전까지는 해결되었는데, 폰트 부분에서 이슈가 있습니다:

~/.wine 이라는 디렉토리가 자연적으로 생성되어있지 않아서, ~/.wine/system.reg 파일도 존재하지 않습니다.

제가 뭔가 놓친게 있을까요?

Hi Shane Thank you for the advice. Again without knowing what's going on i tried different things in terminal emulator without editing in the ~/.wine/system.reg (as I still could't figure out how edit/list the lines in the system.reg) but it worked some degree as the attached photo. When I type English character it works well as it was supposed to but when I type in Korean 한글 a separate rectangular box pops up below the Kakao writing field. It would be good if I could type 한글 directly in the writing field. Anyway as it is it's now it's user friendly enough for the daily use. Hi. Have you reboot your system after changing? if you put the font file in the right place and there is no typo, it will show up.
If not, please check

• font file place
• .reg file
• reboot or logout the OS

I guess you didn't download the font since it's not on my post.
I couldn't upload as it has license issue you need to google it

• for the square box for Hangul, i actually tried to fix it but couldn't find the way. You can try other Korean input software than iBus if you want to but i tried 5 different ones and still not fixed.

i can't check out your images. Could you visit this page and drag and drop the image?

• have you instaled the font on your ubuntu system as well?
• is your wine version on PlayOnLinux 6.14-staging ?

• try to download another font in case the font you have is not all right

check everything whether it's all the same as i posted.
and if so, try uninstall and reinstall so you can find if anything you missed.

even if it doesn't solve the problem with everything then forget about Malgun font since D2 font is good enough and only difference is whether you can read the ads or not.

I tried to install KakaoTalk on Ubuntu 18.04 this time and I found that the supported wine versions are only up to 3.20.

shortcut 만드셨으면 application 목록에 카카오톡이 생기셨을텐데,
그거 클릭해서 실행하면 잘 켜지더라구요 (저도 playonlinux에서 run 눌러서 실행하는거로는 켜지지가 않습니다)

글작성자님 덕에 virtualbox로 카카오톡 키는 불편함을 해소하게 되었습니다. 감사합니다.

이런식으로(그냥 wine이든 playonlinux를 이용하든) 카카오톡을 설치하면 대략 잘 작동합니다. 가끔 로그인이 잘 안되면 몇 번 다시 시도하면 되고요.
다만 한번에 입력하는 문자수가 일정 수 넘어가거면 에러가 발생하고 카카오톡이 죽어버리더군요. 또 파일 전송도 일정 크기 내에서는 괜찮은데 좀 커지면 crash해 버리고요...

네 맞습니다. 사실 사용하면서 소소한 불편사항이 꽤나 많습니다. 클립보드 이미지가 바로 전송이 안되어서 Kolour Paint 에 한번 붙였다가 클립보드에 새로 넣을 때도 있고, 하루에 한번쯤은 이유도 없이 앱이 혼자 죽어버릴 때도 있습니다.
다만 카카오톡을 써야된다면 달리 방법이 없고, 보통의 사용에서는 텍스트 확인 & 전송 용도면 충분하다고 생각하여 이거라도 되서 다행이다 라는 심정으로 사용하고 있습니다.

오늘 저도 똑 같은 에러가 발생하길래...카카오톡 삭제, 재설치 했더니 이번엔 무슨 dll 에러 그래서 이참에....
playonlinux에서 카카오톡 설치 삭제하고 playonlinux uninstall하고 ...그냥 wine에서 직접 설치했습니다. 그 내용은 다음과 같습니다.
os 배포판:Debian Bookworm
wine 버전 : 데비안 bookwom에 있는 8.x 버전

$ apt update && upgrade
하고 나서
kakaotalk.com에서 윈도그용 카카오톡setup.exe 다운로드
$ wine ./KakaoTalk_Setup.exe 실행

그랬더니...다른 dll 등설치하고뭐 그런 것 하나도 없이 일사천리로 설치되고...카카오톡 실행하니 입력창에서 한글 대신 []으로 보이는 현상. 카카오톡 general setting ->display에서 font 변경(저는 d2 coding 씁니다.) 그러고 났더니 카카오톡 잘되네요...심지어는 전에는 안되던 드래그앤 드롭 파일 전송까지 되고요...
