There hasn't been a commit to the main scoop software for more than a year and a half.
A package manager is a very critical piece of system software and no apparent maintenance or update for more than 18 months is a very bad sign for its users. I also understand how this is FOSS software kindly donated to the community which surely demanded an enormous amount of work.
So my only question to @niheaven@rashil2000 (@lukesampson project founder) is, could you provide visibility to the state of the project, and if you believe it is slowly dying, what alternative solution do you suggest to migrate to ?
scoop was IMHO an incredible addition to the Windows ecosystem, in that this was the first piece of software to allow users actual visibility and control over their installed programs, leaning towards the quality, reliability and transparency of Linux package managers. I am talking here mainly about being able to have them all installed cleanly in a single location and to have clear information on the packages content. Being able to have them in a non-superuser location was also an enjoyable plus.
Having no choice but to regress using choco or winget which rely on MSI installers which execute arbitrary code and provide absolutely no visibility or transparency on the software installation would be very unfortunate :(.
In any case I wanna thank you all three and each single contributor for the years of happy package management you've brought us, while I wait for your opinion and avice :).
