We accidentally made it black, which breaks tinting.

As far as I remember, the process for generating it is:

Generate "packed" texture and fnt file using either https://github.com/bsansouci/font-generator or another (better) generator
Pack this into an ocaml file using https://github.com/mirage/ocaml-crunch (set -m plain), use the generated file to replace Reprocessing_DefaultFont.ml
Test (see if it actually looks ok, try tinting)
Make a PR!
