If you just want a dark skin then Bootswatch is fine. However, if you want a dark mode toggle, like Vector 2022, then you'll still run into the downsides of a generic solution.
To get a dark mode toggle in Chameleon we will need to:
Align Bootstrap 5's dark mode design tokens with MediaWiki's
Bootstrap 5 has a built-in dark mode, and MW 1.43's style changes make it easier to implement a custom dark mode. Those two things would be the minimum requirements.
Has anyone ever built a dark mode with chameleon or are there any plans to implement this?
Minerva and Vector skin have this feature and accoring to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Dark_mode a generic solution has downsides.
