how can we keep the old data in addition to recipe.

one set-up page of my upgrade new instance, if I use the same connection string , I will be asked to use diff. Prefix of the table and db which would prevent me to use the original data of the my previous site. I know I can use Recipe. but Can we connect with the old data of the original site directly ?

Each fresh installation requires its own data tables, if you want to use the data from the previous site you can use the deployment feature
