This Library Carpentry lessons introduced the basic concepts of preserving digital files. By the end of the lesson you will: have a basic understanding of file types and file systems; know about file format registries; be able to validate and interrogate files.
This lesson is currently in its early design stage; please check the repository issues and pull requests to see what we have so far. Contributions are very welcome {: .callout}
To complete this lesson, you will need a UNIX-like shell environment -see Setup. You will also need to download the file dp-lesson.zip from GitHub to your desktop and extract it there (once you have unzipped/extracted the file, you should end up with a folder called "dp-lesson"). It is recommended that you complete the lesson Shell Lessons for Librarians if you are not familiar with the shell. {: .prereq}
