  • I have encountered this bug in the official downloads of FreeTube.

  • This issue contains only one bug.

Describe the bug

  1. Go to any YT video (e.g. https://youtu.be/8Z_5OSYFa08)
  2. Audio quality is reduced (in the example, the intro and outro songs are distorted and voice quality is lowered)

Expected Behavior

What is meant to happen is that the audio should be of normal quality.

Last Known Working FreeTube Version (If Any)

v0.23.0

Additional Information

Watching on normal YouTube (from youtube.com directly), there are no obvious audio artifacts. Watching on Use Legacy Formats mode, does remove the audio artifacts. I have also confirmed that it is not my audio device that is producing the artifacts as it is not doing so on a separate PC watching on youtube.com.
v0.23.0 was the last known version that didn't have this issue, but I have not confirmed this myself and this issue may not have been caused by updating FreeTube itself.
IIRC, this issue didn't occur immediately after updating FreeTube from v0.23.0 to v0.23.1, but has happened in the last 24 hours or so.
