A large proportion of CycloneDX 1.4 users have fixed the version of cdxgen at 8.6.x based on our suggestions in the README. Is it time to deprecate this branch and encourage users to migrate to the 9.x release (and use --spec-version 1.4 argument)?
By deprecating, we can stop fixing any bugs that exist only in the 8.x branch, which is what we are already doing due to a lack of time and resources.
By steering users to 9.x, we can limit the maintenance effort and avoid upgrade hell with the v10 release in 2024 (which is going to be a massive refactor and upgrade).
