  • Search for peer-reviewed articles on "brownfields and toxicity" or "superfunds and proximity"
  • Read through the articles to report on:
  • How they define what toxicity is
  • What variables other than proximity are they are considering to determine toxicity
  • How they define proximity risk (so many in a census tract, so many in a community, distance to the site)
  • Any other interesting insights

Nice work! this study may also be helpful https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-94-007-0329-2_8 (could also look on google scholar to see who cites this study to see if anything interesting shakes out)

This is how they define density:

brownfield density, which is the size of total acres of brownfields in a census block group dividing by the land size of the census block group,

So this would be a smaller spatial unit of analysis.

but they also include another variable:

inactive hazardous sites are potential brownfields but administrated by a different government agency. This study includes these inactive hazardous sites in the model. The variable is measured as the acreage of inactive hazardous sites divided by census block group land acreage.
